Mozart’s The Magic Flute was performed for the very first time in 1791. Now, over 230 years later, a remarkable new cinematic adaptation of his most beloved opera celebrates its German premiere on November 7, 2022, at Munich’s historic Gärtnerplatztheater.
With The Magic Flute – The Legacy of Mozart’s Masterpiece, director Florian Sigl makes his feature debut, bringing a fresh, imaginative reinterpretation of the timeless classic. The film masterfully blends Mozart’s iconic music with a modern narrative full of magic, adventure, and emotion.
Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Tim, a vocal student at a prestigious Mozart boarding school in the Austrian Alps, stumbles upon a centuries-old secret portal that transports him into the fantastical world of The Magic Flute. There, assuming the role of Prince Tamino, he teams up with the charming bird-catcher Papageno and embarks on nightly adventures to rescue Princess Pamina from the clutches of the powerful Sarastro.
Meanwhile, Tim’s daytime life is just as eventful: he’s determined to win the lead role of Tamino in the school’s annual production of The Magic Flute — all while navigating his feelings for the confident and captivating Sophie, who turns his world upside down.
