ROCK’N ROLL RINGO LARISSA SIRAH HERDEN STARS IN THE FILM PREMIERING AT FILMWELT HERNE
ROCK’N ROLL RINGO, starring Larissa Sirah Herden, will celebrate its premiere on September 5, 2024, at Filmwelt Herne.
Ringo Fleisch, a scaffolder from Herne, loses his job and takes on temporary work at a local fair. There, he meets carnival operator Fränkie, who tempts him into pursuing a career as a fairground boxer. For the first time in his life, Ringo leaves his hometown behind…
Ringo Fleisch (33) is a scaffolder from Herne. One day, he climbs onto the scaffolding while drunk and injures a colleague in an accident. He is fired. Frustrated and at a loss, he takes a job as a technician with a traveling fair that’s currently stationed in Crange. The flashing lights, chaotic atmosphere, and colorful characters of fairground life cast a spell on him — offering both escape and a new kind of belonging. He joins the crew on tour, leaving his deaf daughter Mia (12) in the care of his mother. For the first time, Ringo leaves Crange without knowing when — or if — he’ll return.
On the road, Ringo meets Fränkie, who runs a boxing booth. Impressed by Ringo’s build, Fränkie persuades him to enter the ring as a challenger-for-prize fighter. Though hesitant, Ringo eventually agrees. Fränkie becomes his mentor, promising fast money, a rush of adrenaline, and a kind of fame in the world of the carnival. He even gives Ringo his fighting name: Rock’n’Roll Ringo.
With each fight, Ringo sinks deeper into the fairground community. He forms a close bond with a loyal mime known as Der Große Hainz. Jenny, who runs the bumper cars, introduces him to the highs and lows of carnival life, though Ringo repeatedly clashes with her hot-headed brother Mirko. Jenny and Ringo share a wild friendship — a volatile mix of affection and mutual convenience.
But Ringo is driven by a deeper goal: at the end of the season, he wants to sail with his daughter Mia to the North Sea on a small houseboat — fulfilling her dream. To make that happen, Ringo throws himself deeper into carnival life, eventually going so far as to participate in a robbery. The film ends tragically — even though the dream becomes reality.
